  Weight-Loss Supplements: Tetrazene KGM-90

Tetrazene KGM-90 from Nutraquest contains as its most important weight-loss compound the soluble fiber glucomannan, which is obtained from the root of the Amorphophallus Konjac plant.

Glucomannan can absorb liquid up to 200 times its weight, so if taken before meals with liquids, it swells up creating a feeling of fullness, which tends to discourage overeating.

Additionally, like many soluble fibers, glucomannan can bind with a variety of substances in the digestive tract to slow digestion and reduce the absorption of fat and carbohydrates.

As early as 1984, researchers were reporting on an eight-week double-blind trial conducted to test purified glucomannan fiber as a food supplement in 20 obese subjects.

In this trial, glucomannan fiber or a placebo was given together with with 8 oz water, one hour prior to each of three meals per day. The results: participants taking glucomannan lost an average of 5.5 pounds over the eight-week period.

This study, and several small studies since, have found that glucomannan also may be helpful in addressing the components of metabolic syndrome, reducing bad cholesterol (LDL), increasing good cholesterol (HDL), lowering triglyceride levels and lowering high blood pressure.

Researchers say Tetrazene KGM-90 (or any high-fiber food or fiber supplement, for that matter) may help fill you up, and if as a result you consumer fewer calories than you require, you may lose weight.

Glucomannan appears to be relatively safe, but carefully reading the warning label and following all label instructions is strongly advised.
